FAQ

Here are the answers to some of your most frequently asked questions:

Do you offer a fitting service?

We do not offer a fitting service directly, but our stores can recommend self employed fitters.

Do you deliver?

Most of our stores do offer a delivery service, charges are dependent on how far you live from the store.

How do I leave an expansion gap?

Expansion spacers will help you create the necessary 9mm gap around the room. These wedge shaped spacers fit against your walls or skirting boards, acting as a guide for installing the flooring. Once the flooring is installed you can remove the spacers.

What will happen to my floor if I do not leave an expansion gap?

The humidity of a room varies, due to factors such as central heating, so the flooring needs room to expand in all directions. If there isn't room to do this, the flooring will expand back on itself, causing it to rise and become uneven. Always install your floor with a minimum 9mm expansion gap on all sides, but don't worry, the gaps can be covered with coverstrips or skirting.

I want to use laminate flooring throughout my ground floor but the installation instructions say it must be stopped at doors and archways between rooms. Is this necessary?

Each room has a different temperature and level of humidity and if flooring is continued between two rooms the flooring will expand in different ways. This can cause gapping, so it is essential to stop flooring at doorways, leave an expansion gap and fit a threshold.

What type of underlay should I use under the flooring?

For all ground floor installations always put down polythene underlay and foam underlay underneath the flooring. First floor installations onto timber floorboards only need foam underlay, except for a bedroom over a garage which requires polythene insulation as well.

Is laminate flooring guaranteed?

Different types of laminate flooring have different guarantee terms. Most manufacturers offer a 10 or 15 year guarantee on the performance of their flooring. Always read the guarantee terms on the flooring packaging/instructions.

Do you offer refunds?

We will give refunds in accordance with your legal rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 i.e. where goods are not of satisfactory quality or as described. In other instances we will consider an exchange or credit note, provided that the goods are returned promptly and are in their original condition with the receipt.

Please remember you are not entitled to a refund if:

  1. You have changed your mind about the goods
  2. You have damaged the goods
  3. You were aware of the defect before you bought the goods
  4. You find that you no longer need the goods

What should I use for cleaning and maintaining laminate flooring?

Good quality flooring will have a durable smooth surface, which requires minimum maintenance. There are special cleaning products for laminate flooring, such as Cleaner and Enhancer fluid or the active fibre dry mop. Do not use wax cleaners, polishes or abrasive cleaning products on your laminate flooring and avoid leaving liquid on it for any length of time.

Do I need accessories to go with my flooring?

You will normally require underlay, beading or skirting, and door bars. You may also require pipe roses and floor protectors.
