Shipping FAQs
Q: How long will it take to receive my order?
A: The standard shipping time for orders shipped via UPS ground is 5-10 days. Large items such as hardwood flooring or stone are shipped via common carrier (trucking company) and may take up to 14 days to arrive. Back to TopQ: Can I have an order shipped to my P.O. Box?
A: No. The vast majority of our merchandise is shipped via UPS, and a valid
street address is needed to ensure proper delivery. If a P.O. Box is used as a shipping address, an error message will appear when submitting the order. We also cannot deliver to A.P.O., F.P.O. or foreign addresses. Back to Top
Q: Can I have an order shipped to a residential address?
A: Yes, we can deliver to a residential address. Back to Top
Q: Do I have to be present to accept the delivery?
A: Yes, it is preferable that you, or someone authorized by you be present
during the delivery. Back to Top
Q: Am I responsible for unloading?
A: We always try to have a lift gate delivery to all residential deliveries. This is not always possible, however. This would mean that the driver would have a hand operated pallet jack that can roll it to the house. Sometimes when there is no lift gates available in the area, it is needed to have
someone there to unload. We always have the delivery companies call you ahead of time to confirm these details. Back to Top
Q: Can I ship my order to a different address?
A: Yes. When you place your order and come to the Check Out screen, just replace
your address with the address you want to ship your merchandise to, then continue. Remember to use a street address, not a Post Office Box, for any shipping address. Back to Top
Q: How are shipping charges calculated?
A: Shipping charges vary according to product type and destination.
Some orders are shipped directly from one of our authorized vendors across
the country. The individual vendors ultimately determine the method of product shipment. Therefore, we are not able to reduce shipping charges for any reason.
Most small products are shipped via UPS (because they offer package insurance and excellent tracking software). Larger items are generally shipped via common
carrier, and require higher shipping rates. Select products offer an express shipping option. In most cases, this rapid delivery requires an additional fee. Back to Top
Q: How can I figure out how much shipping will cost?
A: To figure out how much shipping will cost for your order, add the items that you want to your shipping cart and go to "secure checkout." Enter your shipping information, and press submit. Your shipping amount will be
calculated. You can press the back button to continue shopping. Back

General Flooring Questions
A: There is a huge range of quality in 3/4" X 2-1/4" among strip oak flooring. Bruce and Hartco are the only two major hardwood flooring manufacturers that will sell their products through the warehouses. Most flooring manufacturers simply won't sell through warehouses because of the damage that it does to their reputations and businesses--people equate those products with the bottom of the bottom end--which they are. Some manufacturers love to sell to the warehouses because it is a way to dump their very low end products that they can't sell as first grade. Since oak strip flooring is a commodity item, the price you pay generally reflects the quality and the shipping costs. We buy as well as Home Depot, Lowes or any of the warehouses. In most cases we get better prices than they do and at times we sell to the warehouses. In hardwood flooring, 97% of the product available in the country is not available through the warehouses. When they do have a product you will get a good price, but it's also a very low quality. We have absolutely no trouble competing with them when the customer will consider both quality and price. If the quality of their product satisfies your need, then it's a good buy for you. Strip oak is the hardest area of flooring to sell because customers don't understand the differences in quality. When you look at even Bruce's line of strip oak, you will see a huge range of prices--these all reflect differences in quality. If all customers wanted only the lowest price, then a big company like Bruce wouldn't have all the different price points that they do. Hardwood flooring is a lifetime investment and most people don't want to waste their time and money on installing a poor quality floor. The small difference in the price difference between a poor quality floor and a good quality floor is a small percentage of the total job.

Q: I am chemically sensitive and would like to install wood flooring in my home. Do you have products with finishes that are better for persons with chemical sensitivity?A: As the owner of roomfloorings, I have been personally helping many chemically sensitive persons overcome their sensitivities and get hardwood floors that they can live with. I personally went through many years of severe chemical and food sensitivities and finally conquered the problem. I found that the problem is caused by a somewhat complicated group of nutritional deficiencies, which cause our bodies to under produce the enzymes and antioxidants that are normally present to break down natural and man-made chemicals in our environment. Our bodies, if healthy, have the ability to break down nearly all chemicals that we are exposed to. The only difference between chemically sensitive people and those who are not, is nutrient deficiencies Generally people with MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) have anemia, meaning that they are likely to be deficient in iron, copper, and the vitamins that help these minerals work in the body, such as vitamin B-12. I got B-12 deficient from being a vegetarian for many years and correcting this problem was very significant in overcoming the MCS. Other deficiencies contributing to MCS include chromium and selenium. These two key minerals are essential for the body to manufacture the enzymes, which break down petrochemicals, including auto exhaust chemicals, insecticides, pesticides, etc. These are the chemicals which are in carpets, which most MCS people react to. There may be other deficiencies and your thyroid status can often give clues about these. If you tend toward hypothyroidism (overweight, low energy, feeling cold), you may be deficient in manganese and molybdenum. If you tend toward hyperthyroidism (thin, fast heart rate, feeling warm), you may be deficient in copper, iron, magnesium, or potassium. I have a website at
www.iThyroid.com for information about the nutritional correction of thyroid disease, with some nutritional information about other diseases. It's possible to find out your deficiencies through hair analysis. You can get information about hair analysis laboratories on the "Hair Analysis" page of iThyroid.com. It can take time to correct these deficiencies and recover from MCS. It may take 1-2 years to fully recover, but you may see significant gains in a few weeks. Meanwhile it's a good idea to get materials in your house which won't aggravate your condition to avoid additional strain on your body. Hardwood floors are the best choice, while carpet and laminates are probably the worst. The best finish on the hardwood floors is acrylic and the new generation of finishes (the aluminum and titanium oxides) are excellent because they are very strong and don't abrade easily. You'll want a prefinished floor because the finishes that are applied on the job are usually the oil-modified polyurethanes, which outgas for many months. There are several floors that I'd recommend and these depend on the type of construction of your house, i.e. whether you have concrete slab floors or a raised foundation.
Please advise me of your subfloor condition and the type of wood that you would like and I can recommend a good hardwood floor for you. Also if you're interested in correcting the MCS through nutrition, let me know and I can guide you through the process.
Thanks, John@Roomflooring.com
A: Large dogs tend to scratch most any floor. The best suggestion we have is to 1) Keep your dogs toenails trimmed and 2) By stone or laminate flooring or 3)Buy a hardwood floor with an aluminum oxide finish.

A: Wood goes through a natural aging process called patina. Bright sunlight can also accelerate this condition. Moving area rugs or other items that may cause this effect from time to time is recommended.

Q: What is the difference between solid and engineered floors?
A: The difference between solid and engineered floors comes in the construction. Solid floors are one complete piece of wood, usually 3/4" thick and most commonly 2-1/4" or 3-1/4" wide. Solid strip or plank floors can be installed by nail down or glue down to wooden subfloor.
Engineered floors have 2, 3 or 5 layers of wood glued together to become one board. They range in thickness from 1/4" to 9/16" and widths from 2-1/4" to 7". Engineered floors have layers of wood that have a cross-graining lamination process resulting in a product that is dimensionally stable and not affected by moisture as greatly as solids. With cross-graining the plies, engineered floors become very stable so they do not expand and contract like solid products. Engineered floors can be installed on any grade level of the home; below grade, on grade or above grade. Installation options are Nail Down, Staple Down, Glue Down, or Floating.
