I have laminate flooring in my living room and I really wanted a darker wood floor, can I stain it? | |
The reason I am asking this is because the wooden flooring at the moment is a light pine colour and the thought of replacing the whole floor is very expensive and a messy business.-
Answers:
1There are two types of laminate flooring. One type is made with real wood grain and one is just printed onto plywood. If the grain is real wood, you might be able to sand off the sealer and stain them... but I would not recommend it.
- If you want to try and stain them, you might consider pulling them up and staining them one-by-one rather than in place. If you stain them in place the stain and sealer will pool in the gaps between the boards.
- You might just paint them with a glaze. The glaze will still show the grain through the color. If you did this, you still might pull them up to do it, but it likely to be less chancey than staining them. You will have to seal the glaze once you paint them.
The good news is that if you mess up, the floor is already prepped if you just go out and buy new flooring. It might be better to just look for a new boards.
